Introducing our 2026 spotlight baby Reese. . . Here is her story as told by her mother.
Reese's story begins with her mother Megan, who was diagnosed with unexplained hypertension at a young age. She has been on medication since she was 14. Reese has an older sister Hadley who was just 1 when Megan became pregnant again.
This was a very difficult pregnancy from the start. Megan sustained many months of morning sickness, and was taking weekly infusions to help with her difficult pregnancy. Surprisingly, Megan's blood pressure normalized and she was able to be off blood pressure medication for the first time in 17 years!
However, when she was at 33 weeks and 5 days, her blood pressure spiked and she was admitted to Hartford Hospital. She was diagnosed with superimposed preeclampsia with severe features. The doctor wanted her to sustain the pregnancy until 34 weeks to give the baby her best chance. Reese was born at 34 weeks and 1 day. She weighed 4 pounds, 14 ounces and was 17.5 inches long. Incredibly, after a traumatic pregnancy, the birth experience was calm and amazing.
Reese spent 16 days in the NICU, and needed heating and feeding support. Her biggest hurdle, not yet resolved, is feeding support. However, her family is so thankful for the health and progress she has made!
